Arina Sobolenko is a Belarusian tennis player, the world No. 1, and one of the brightest stars of modern tennis. She was born on May 5, 1998, in Minsk.
Arina grew up in a sports family: her father Sergey was a hockey player. She stumbled into tennis by chance — one day, while driving with her father past tennis courts, she asked to be enrolled in classes and fell in love with the sport right away. Her first coach was Elena Vergeenko, who noted the determined character of the young athlete. At the age of eleven, Arina changed coaches. At the junior level, she did not achieve outstanding results, winning only five ITF tournament titles.
Sobolenko's professional career began in 2015. Her first significant breakthrough came in 2018 when she won her first WTA title in New Haven, followed by a prestigious tournament in Wuhan. In 2019, she also won the US Open in doubles with Elise Mertens.
Her real success came on Grand Slam tournaments. In 2023, she won her first Australian Open, defeating Elena Rybakina in the final. Since then, she has become one of the most stable tennis players on the tour. She has four Grand Slam singles titles to her name: she has won twice in Australia and twice at the US Open.
At different times, Sobolenko was rumored to be dating hockey players, including Konstantin Koltsov. Currently, she is in a relationship with the Brazilian entrepreneur Giorgios Frangoulis, the founder of a cafe chain. In March 2026, the couple announced their engagement.
